Why I Don’t Do Photography Full-Time (And Why That’s a Good Thing!)

When people hear I’m a photographer, they often assume it’s my full-time career. While I love capturing authentic moments and telling stories through my lens, I’ve never wanted photography to become my 9-to-5. Here's why—and why that choice benefits both me and my clients.

So, Why I don’t do photography full-time

Photography started as a creative outlet for me—a way to document life’s raw, unscripted moments and turn them into something timeless. When I first picked up a camera, it wasn’t about making money; it was about making memories.

Photography has always been a way for me to capture and celebrate love in all its forms. It’s not just about snapping pictures; it’s about preserving moments that mean something. That’s why I don’t do photography full-time. By keeping it as a creative outlet rather than a full-time job, I ensure that my passion for storytelling and connection never fades.

Turning my passion into a full-time job might seem like the natural next step, but I’ve always felt that doing so would take away the joy. The thought of shooting for the sake of a paycheck rather than for the love of the craft just doesn’t sit right with me. By keeping photography as a creative outlet, I preserve the excitement and inspiration that drew me to it in the first place.

It’s About More Than Work

One of the reasons I love photography is because I love love—not just the romantic kind, but the love found in families, friendships, and all those beautifully chaotic moments in between. Photography allows me to connect with people during their most genuine, joyful times, whether it’s a wedding day, a family milestone, or just a casual portrait session.

Because I’m not relying on photography as my sole income, I have the freedom to choose projects that truly inspire me. This lets me focus on creating meaningful experiences for my clients rather than taking on sessions that might not align with my style or vision.

Why It’s Good for You

Choosing not to do photography full-time means that every shoot I take on gets my full heart and attention. When you book with me, you’re not just another appointment on a packed calendar. Instead, you’re getting someone who’s genuinely invested in making your moments unforgettable.

Because I’m not burnt out from a never-ending schedule of shoots, I approach every session with fresh eyes and enthusiasm. It’s my goal to make sure you feel seen, celebrated, and cared for—because that’s what makes the best photos.

Balancing Passion and Purpose

For me, photography is more than a job; it’s a way to balance creativity and purpose. By keeping it as something I get to do rather than something I have to do, I can stay inspired and continue delivering high-quality work that reflects my love for storytelling.

So, if you’re looking for a photographer who isn’t just clocking in, but genuinely cherishes the opportunity to capture your memories, let’s chat! Together, we’ll create images that reflect the love, light, and authenticity of your story.
